Happy New Years in 2008!

It’s a new year and another opportunity to resolve to be better, do more, and give more of yourself. What is immediately obvious about these resolutions are that they are all about “you”, but not in a negative way. But what is negative is that these resolutions are not very specific.

There is a saying that, “the only one you can change is you”. This is certainly true but you can’t even change you if you don’t make specific plans.

The first resolve is to “be better”. As a Black Red Roots community we resolve to bring better articles about what is important in the development of our community. The second resolve is to “do more”. This will take the form of exposure to what is happening in the Native American and African American Diaspora around the globe. The third and last resolve is “to give more” of oneself. This resolve requires another campaign to get others to join the Black Red Roots community and to share their stories of ancestral heritage.

During 2007 we grew in membership. Both national and international members joined in the 'Community'. Members began to explore their Native ancestry through DNA testing. The field of DNA testing and Native DNA databases is expanding and provides one more method of identification.

In 2008 we will continue to focus on finding native ancestry identifications and educating our members and others about the rich legacy and future of Natives with Black Red Roots ancestry.
